The glorious holidays are filled with marvelous opportunities to celebrate with cherished family and friends. It's sometimes only when the last present is purchased, the last task completed or the calendar marks Christmas Day that we finally allow ourselves time to relax.
Moments are often all that are needed to recharge our batteries. I'm going to try to remember that regardless of how many items are on my perpetual to-do list, taking a few moments to relax each day needs to be a recurring priority entry.

Creating New Memories
Often, when we are faced with grief or change, our instinct is to hold on to the familiar. However, grief and change require us to do things differently. When we accept that we can't stop time, it frees us to move forward.
Dread prefaces special occasions and holidays. Changing the expected celebrations allows us to acknowledge our missing, and create new ways of coping and moving forward.
My birthday came far too close to Edgar's death to anticipate celebration. However, fabulous family and friends created special new memories to create joy and allow me to move forward.

Transformations
I love the holidays! The transformation of our home as we decorate every room is exciting. There can be no doubt that it's the Christmas season. The transformation is complete when Christmas school vacations begin and the constant, welcome flow of our children's friends fills our home with vibrancy, joy and laughter.
When the last nativity is stored, and school begins again, our home initially seems a little empty. Lovely memories and beautiful photos help fill the void.
