Timeless Resources

I'm a continuous learner and I love sharing tools, resources and tidbits with others.  Through the years I've learned that just because I know and embrace something, life can get in the way of others seizing these offered opportunities.  It has been such a treat, to have a new colleague enthusiastically use resources I'd long ago provided that had been forgotten by other tenured colleagues.

When we provide ongoing opportunities, we don't always know what the ultimate impact might be.

What is a Volunteer?

There are countless descriptive definitions and examples of volunteering.  Volunteers make priceless impact every day.  As I was running this morning, in a volunteer t-shirt, I thought of a simplistic way of depicting what ideal volunteers are:

  • Valuable
  • Open
  • Listening
  • Understanding
  • Needed
  • Talented
  • Empathetic
  • Energized
  • Resource
Thank you to each of you for making such a difference in so very many ways!

When to Run and When to Rest

As an accidental runner, my questions are many.  When I googled "when to run and when to rest" I got 1.36 billion hits.  So many options is overwhelming.

Though this is by far the highest number of hits I've received for an important question, it reinforces the importance of asking credible friends and associates when we need to quickly process appropriate responses.

Lynne Twist, President of the Soul of Money Institute, was the featured speaker at The Women's Resource of Greater Houston's 20th Annual Luncheon on Thursday.  She shared several interesting perspectives:
  • Labeling diminishes people - She said poor is an inaccurate label for those without financial means, because they must be innovative, creative and courageous.  There are no "haves" and "have nots", people simply possess different resources - inner riches or outer riches.
  • "Affluenza" is a vicious cycle of wealth without meaning.
  • What we appreciate appreciates.
  • If we let go of trying to get more of what we don't need, it frees oceans of energy to pay attention to what we already have.
  • Gratitude has two aspects - gratefulness and thanksgiving.  When we embrace gratitude we experience the great fullness of life.
